Innovation and collaboration with industry Innovation is an integrated part of DTU's activities in regard to education, research, and scientific advice. DTU seeks to utilize and exchange knowledge and technology to ensure that our efforts result in sustainable solutions, growth, and job creation. This is done though student innovation, by collaborating with external partners, and by commercializing our own ideas and inventions. Students as drivers of innovation DTU supports curricular and extra-curricular activities and provides a framework of competences, facilities, projects, and events to nurture the potential for student innovation. DTU Skylab is a student hub for innovation where students can put their entrepreneurial skills to the test. In 2015, DTU Skylab had 59,000 visitors; more than 200 prototypes were made, and 112 pre-start-up projects made use of DTU Skylab's workshops, laboratories, coaching, and mentor services. Collaboration with industry DTU excels in collaborating with private companies on specific projects, and is currently ranked 6th in the world on the Leiden Ranking 2015 indicator ‘Collaborative Publications with Industry’. Start-ups and spin-outs DTU focuses on establishing international, scalable, and sustainable start-ups, and spans the entire value chain—from knowledge creation and patent applications to business development and investment in start-ups and spin-outs. Spin-out activities are supported through DTU's Proof of Concept Fund, alumni mentoring, and incubation.
