DTU Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity Authorship conflicts: Guest researchers A (non-Danish) guest researcher, fully financed from his/her home country, is a guest professor for half a year at DTU. The guest researcher receives substantial in-put to research discussions from the DTU research group hosting him/her. A few months after leaving DTU, a paper is published without notifying DTU researchers beforehand and not including them as co-authors. A similar situation could be the opposite outcome: A paper is published including several DTU researchers without informing them. Authorship: Research collaboration among PhD students Research collaboration among PhD students is in many cases highly advantageous, but the order of their authorship can be a challenge when ensuring that all PhD stu-dents can include articles with first authorships in their theses. A solution to this problem is to very clearly indicate the shared contribution of the PhD students, for example by adding “X and Y contributed equally to the work”. The other co-authors would then usually be the PhD supervisors. Here, the issue of senior authorship and corresponding authorship can also become a challenge. As above, shared corre-sponding authorship (e.g. being corresponding author on a major part of the study) can be an option. These issues about shared authorships occur more often these days with large, multi-author studies. DTU – Technical University of Denmark 22
