International Day PHO TO MADS JENSEN PHO TO COLOUR BOX PHO TO BEN T HULSR ØJ Danish students are being encouraged from all sides to travel, see the world and spend one or two semesters studying abroad. On 12 March 2013, plenty of inspiration was made available when the student organization PF International and the International Office joined forces to hold ‘International Day 2013’ at DTU Lyngby Campus. At the event, students had the opportunity to meet representatives of some of the 250 universities with which DTU has exchange agreements, sample local delicacies and chat with students who have just been studying abroad. Study in China In collaboration with University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, DTU has developed a new MSc programme in Engineering. Based in Beijing, the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Biomass and Energy programme is a research-based MSc programme that focuses on theoretical, experimental and practical aspects of Chemical and Biochemical Engeineering and its use in the field of converting biomass and waste to energy and chemicals. H.C. Ørsted Postdocs H.C. Ørsted postdoc Andrew Strikwerda from Boston University is working on the HI-TERA project at DTU Photonics. The project investigates nonlinear spectroscopy at terahertz frequencies which can be broadly applied to practical applications involving the detection of hidden biological and chemical substances such as pharmaceutical compounds, drugs, and food-related chemicals. Each year, DTU invites highly talented international young researchers—who have obtained outstanding results during their PhD studies, and who have demonstrated excellence and potential in their field of study—to apply for one of the prestigious stipends under the Hans Christian Ørsted Postdoc Programme. The selected ten researchers in 2012 are from France, Greece, Korea, China, U.S., Germany, and Italy The H.C. Ørsted programme was launched on the occasion of DTU’s 175 years anniversary in 2004 and is named after Hans Christian Ørsted, discoverer of Electromagnetism and founder of the University. 13 DTU in profile 2013 The Int ernat ional commu ni t y at D TU
