Inspiring and advanced study environment A new building on DTU Lyngby Campus provides an inviting and stimulating environment. DTU Compute At the beginning of 2013, DTU Informatics and DTU Mathematics merged to become one of DTU’s biggest departments: DTU Compute – Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, which now employs around 400 staff and features 11 research sections. Photos STAMERS KON TOR There are no dull views from the hallways and offices in Building 324. In several places, the space opens up and becomes an aerial walkway with a view over the 24 black olive trees on the ground floor, where furnished lounge areas invite students and staff alike to sit beneath the shady branches to work or chat. The first and second floors are devoted to DTU Compute, while the ground floor has been laid out as joint teaching facilities with six classrooms that vary in size and can accommodate between 20 and 60 students. Furnished ‘break-out’ zones are assigned to each classroom. Here students can work in groups as part of their course learning. This layout makes it possible to vary the form of teaching between lectures and group work—and helps the switch from one to the other to flow smoothly. Glass-walled classrooms create an open and inviting atmosphere while allowing daylight to reach the innermost parts of the building. Advanced AV equipment The classrooms are fitted with advanced AV equipment designed to support e-learning at DTU. In addition, cameras have been installed in all rooms so that the lectures can be streamed live to the Internet or transmitted to other facilities in the building. Lott e Krull Transforming DTU Lyngby Campus In the coming years DTU will become one of Denmark’s largest property developers with large-scale investments that will improve our already beautiful main campus and the infrastructure we offer our students and staff. The spread on pp. 18-19 provides an overview of the magnitude of the projects. 17 DTU in profile 2013
