23 April 27 April 19 March  Quality from farm to table DTU and the University of Copenhagen are working together in the field of food in a partnership named ‘Copenhagen Food Science’. The objectives are to boost the food industry and food production in Denmark, to assure food quality from farm to table, and to maintain Denmark’s position in European food research. 17 April  Tailor-made for business The first students to complete the CDIO-based BEng programme graduate from DTU. CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) is an education concept designed to equip engineers with as many as possible of the skills currently in demand by the business sector. 19 April P olymer prize The ATV Elastyren Prize has been awarded to Professor Kristoffer Almdal from DTU Nanotech for his internationally recognized research into polymers, which has, for example, resulted in advanced skin adhesives, nanosensors and medical implants. The prize is instituted by the late member of ATV, the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, engineer Torbjørn Grenness. 23 April  Blueprints for 40,000 m2 of new construction completed COWI—with subconsultants Christensen & Co Arkitekter A/S, Rørbæk og Møller Arkitekter ApS, Schul Landskabsarkitekter ApS and Wessberg A/S—wins the DTU project competition for the best proposal for a major new department building. The building comprises approx. 40,000 m2 and is to provide the setting for research and education in the fields of life science and bioengineering. DTU Aqua, DTU Food and DTU Vet are to share the new premises. 27 April  Annual Commemoration Day In accordance with tradition, a range of prizes and honorary awards are presented at DTU’s annual Commemoration Day in the presence of more than 4,000 guests including Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark, several ambassadors, and students and staff from DTU. The awards for teacher of the year at BSc and MSc level were presented to Associate Professor Henrik Bredmose from DTU Wind Energy, and Professor Ilmar Santos from DTU Mechanical Engineering, respectively. Honorary doctorates were awarded to Professor Yechezkel Barenholz, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel and to Professor Richard W. Ziolkowski, University of Arizona, USA. Professor André Visser from DTU Aqua and Associate Professor Jakob Søndergaard Jensen from DTU Mechanical Engineering were presented with their dr. techn. doctoral diplomas by President Anders Bjarklev. The DTU innovation prize was presented to Professor Rolf Henrik Berg from DTU Nanotech. DTU’s international award was presented to postdoc Robert Read from DTU Mechanical Engineering. The annual Safety Award was presented to Laboratory Technician Lotte Nielsen from DTU Nanotech. Professor Otto Anker Nielsen from DTU Transport gave the gala lecture on traffic forecasting and transport behaviour.
