This thesis is submitted as partial fullment of the requirements for obtaining the
degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
The Ph.D. project was carried out at the Department of Physics at DTU, and as a
member of the Complex Motion in Fluids Group, during a three-year period from 15
December 2014 to 14 December 2017. I gratefully acknowledge funding support from
