2 A double success Open House   As always, the apples were rinsed, the robots fully charged and the smiles neatly in place. Nevertheless, Thursday, 7 March was a very special open house event as it marked the first time that the doors opened at the Lyngby and Ballerup sites at the same time. And it resulted in record numbers of visitors to both campuses: 1,950 in Lyngby and 250 at the former IHK site in Ballerup. Redshirted DTU representatives from all the courses were on site to receive all the visitors. - Kristian Dupont Elvstr øm Photos Mikal Schlosser Seize the future Life at DTU means study, games and much more besides – as the open house visitors could experience for themselves. For the first time since the merger, DTU’s twin campuses joined up to host an open house event. More than 2,000 high school pupils dropped by. Bus conn ection Free transport had been organised between the campuses in Lyngby and Ballerup, so Jonas and Kris visited both to compare the degree programmes on offer. Two campuses – one DTU spirit Visitors to the Ballerup site were met by Lars and Rikke – who normally study in Lyngby. “DTU has a strong, wonderful student environment, and this is what we want to show future students”, explains Rikke. A geek in need ... Mathias is taking a BA in environmental technology, and with his demonstration of a special water purification technology he hopes to attract future classmates. Juicy marketing The famous DTU apples with their logo are produced by a German company that is not keen to reveal the details of its technology. However, we do know that lasers can be used to turbo-ripen the green and red pigments in the apples, giving them a different colour and making the logo stand out. It should be emphasised that the process is completely chemicalfree, and that no harm is done to the apples during the treatment.
