14. Emilio Martínez Paneda received
the Springer PhD Prize and the Acta
Materialia Student Award
The Springer PhD Prize was given for his PhD
“Strain gradient plasticity-based modeling of
damage and fracture” and the Acta Materialia
Student Award for his paper “Strain gradient
plasticity-based modeling of hydrogen
environment”. His work has been carried out
in close collaboration with researchers at the
section of Solid Mechanics at DTU Mechanical
Engineering.
15. Chris V. Nielsen received the F.W.
Taylor Medal and the International
KARL-KOLLE-Prize for Metal Forming
2017
Associate Professor Chris V. Nielsen received
the prestigious international F.W. Taylor
Medal Award. The award is given by CIRP,
The International Academy of Production
Engineering, and was presented at CIRP’s
General Assembly. He also received the
reputable prize International KARL-KOLLEPrize
for Metal Forming 2017, awarded by
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Umformtechnik – AGU at
the ICTP conference.
16. Publication in Nature
The article ”Giga-voxel computational
morphogenesis for structural design” by Associate
Professor Niels Aage, Erik Andreassen,
Boyan S. Lazarov and Professor Ole
Sigmund was published in Nature in October.
The research is the conclusion of the project
NextTop, funded by VILLUM FONDEN. Access
to the supercomputer was funded by PRACE.
17. Master Student wins prestigious
DANSIS Graduate Award
Master Student Marcin Piotr Serdeczny
received the prestigious DANSIS (Danish Society
for Industrial Fluid Dynamics) graduate
award for the best MS thesis project. His thesis
has the title “Infusion flow in composites
processes”.
18. DTU’s ‘Young Researcher Award’
Joe Alexandersen received the award for his
thesis “Efficient topology optimization of
multiscale and multiphysics problems”.
19. Viggo Tvergaard received the
Timoshenko Medal
The Timoshenko Medal is awarded by ASME
for distinguished contributions to the field of
applied mechanics, and Professor Emeritus
Viggo Tvergaard received the distinction at
ASME’s annual meeting in November. Only a
few researchers outside USA have received
